Obituary of Ann Armstrong

Ann had numerous contributions to the Charlotte Garden Club as well as Winghaven. She was active when we changed out the Japanese garden (her project) to the current garden at the front entrance of the Mint on Randolph Road. The midsection of that garden originally was a knot garden and maintained as such. She was on that committee as well as working on numerous extensive Home and Garden Tours among other projects. She was active when the rose garden was established and also the Strickland gardens on the Eastover side of the Mint. She and Lindie Wilson were co-editors of Beautiful at All Season by Elizabeth Lawrence. The Armstrong property on Hampton Ave was a showplace of interesting plants including Dr. Bev Armstrong’s bonsai plants. His bonsai plants were donated to the NC Arboretum in Asheboro. To garden in Charlotte and not know of Ann Armstrong would have been almost impossible back in the day.
