We had a wonderful turnout and a beautiful sunny, brisk morning for our workday last Thursday, 2/29. In attendance were: Susan Jackson, Kimberly Giger, Suzanne Fletcher, LeeAnn Bushorn, Susan Caldwell, Brandon Hogan, Laura Love, Karen Tate, Joan Rasmussen, and Dottie Hedberg. We were able to complete all needed tasks for spring garden clean up including digging up some of the ever-expanding banana tree colony, weeding, spreading a nice layer of fine gravel for the pathway, and an extremely dedicated crew who cut weed vines under the holly hedge. Our CGC volunteers made quick work out of our tasks, so we had plenty of time to tour the rest of the garden.
Please take time in the coming weeks to stop by McGill Rose Garden and notice the garden coming alive as the days get longer and temperatures start to warm. Please note in our (CGC) part of the garden, we are leaving many of the perennial seedheads, stems and leaves in the garden – they provide food sources, nesting material and shelter for beneficial insects, birds and surrounding wildlife.
We will have another workday in the coming months to add more perennials and continue our battle with weeds!
