The Charlotte Garden Club has a remarkable line up of landscape legends, horticultural heroes, and innovative florists to educate and entertain you this program year. They were secured last spring, before COVID-19.

Please know that we are still hosting these experts; however, they will be virtual presentations through Zoom for the remainder of 2020. 2021 formats are to be determined.

So stay engaged with us and mark your calendars for a fabulous, yet different-than-expected year!

Native Tree Identification in Winter
THIS Saturday, November 3- 9:00am-3:30pm
This unique class teaches how to identify native trees in Winter! To the untrained eye, a wintertime forest can appear lifeless and lacking in diversity. However, tree species showcase their uniqueness in twigs and fruit even after their showy green canopy is long gone. Bud shape and form; twig size, color and odor; leaf scar shape and arrangement, and many other characteristics which persist into winter can be more helpful than leaves in identifying species.
In this class, Amy will teach twig anatomy, fruit types, and related vocabulary. With this knowledge, students will learn to identify many of North Carolina’s native trees by twig and fruit characteristics. Bark and branching form will be discussed for many species as well.

This class is part of our Certificate in Native Plant Studies program, but is open to the general public as well! Register here
