Don Pell on Designing and Managing Naturalistic Gardens: Successes and Failures in the Landscape

International designer Don Pell focuses an unbiased eye on what is – and is not – working in the plant communities he creates. Not all plants “play nice,” which can force the gardener to make revisions that keep plants in check. Don shares his approach to editing, highlights his successful compositions, and reveals a few that didn’t go quite as expected. Winner of top design awards from the Perennial Plant Association, the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, and most recently, a Silver Medal in his first-ever appearance at the Philadelphia Flower Show, Don’s gardens have been in The New York Times, Garden Design and other publications.
